Common dental emergencies
- Toothache or sudden tooth pain
- Swelling in the gums, jaw or face
- A chipped, cracked or broken tooth
- A lost filling or crown
- A knocked-out or loose tooth
What to do before your visit
- Rinse gently with warm water.
- Hold a cold compress on the outside of your cheek to help with swelling.
- If a tooth is knocked out, pick it up by the top, not the root, keep it moist in milk, and call us right away.
- Save any broken pieces of a tooth or crown and bring them with you.
If you have swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, a high fever, or bleeding that will not stop, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
